About us
Who we are
Concerned Citizens of Prince Edward County is a not-for-profit Ontario corporation. It is a membership organization made up of civic-minded residents who wish to work cooperatively with County Council to preserve the quality of life in The County and to ensure that local government is affordable.
What we do
Our major focus is on County Projects -- projects that are initiated by Council, or by a private party but requiring the approval of Council. We review proposals being made, provide objective information to Council, our Members and the public, offer suggestions where appropriate and constructive criticism where necessary.
Why we exist
Two important reasons. First, the individual citizen has little opportunity to make his/her voice heard by local government. By grouping together with other like-minded citizens we can increase our credibility with, and influence on, local government.
Second, unlike the situation in provincial and federal government, there is no opposition party to hold local government accountable for its actions between elections. We don't view ourselves as "the opposition", but we can ask the tough questions that opposition parties do.
When and where we meet
We meet on the last Thursday of odd-numbered months, from 7:00 to 9:30 pm, most often at Picton's Town Hall (King and Ross Streets, above the Fire Hall). From time to time, we hold our meetings at other locations in The County. Check News and events to confirm the upcoming meeting date and location.
Our Annual General Meeting is held concurrent with the monthly meeting in May.
We need you
In order to have credibility and influence, we need to have a large and motivated membership representing all areas of The County. We welcome new Members and encourage you to come out to our meetings and involve yourself in our projects. But if you just want to keep in touch with what's going on, that's fine with us.
We draw on the expertise gained by our members in their working lives and the enthusiasm that people have for The County and its lifestyle. If you have particular expertise or interests and are willing to contribute to our work, please contact one of our Board Members.
